HOW TO SMUDGE WITH SAGE

Be sure to open all doors and windows to allow for airflow and to provide a way for the negative energy to be released from the space.

Set a clear intention of what you hope to clear and release through the cleansing ritual.

Holding the sage stick, light one end with a candle, match or lighter and allow it to burn for 20 seconds before carefully blowing it out, allowing the embers to create smoke. Remember to always exercise care and caution when working with fire.

The embers will continue to burn for some time however if they go out before you have finished your ritual simply relight the sage stick.

If you are smudging a person, create a sacred loop from one foot around the body and to the other foot, working from the ground up. We suggest you sage yourself before moving on to the space or another person. Move around the space you wish to clear allowing the smoke to waft around, be sure to take the smoke into the corners of the room. If you are cleansing crystals, place them in a group and let the smoke envelop them.

As you move the Sage stick around each space you are cleansing carry a fire proof bowl to catch any ash that may fall. I personally love to use a shell, this is a tradition passed on to me from my beautiful best friend from her beautiful mother.

Open your heart and speak aloud your intentions, call in your guides, ask for protection, whatever you are moved to speak in that moment. Allow the beautiful smoke to settle over you, bringing peace and clarity to the moment.

Once you feel your cleanse is complete, place the Sage stick into your fireproof bowl or shell and gently press the embers into the dish until they burn out.
